Green Pygmy Goose

Nettapus pulchellus

A Green Pygmy Goose

Although called a pygmy goose, this is actually a duck and the genus Nettapus contains some of the smallest ducks. This species is found in freshwater tropical lagoons in southern New Guinea and northern Australia.

Nesting often occurs in holes in trees along the waterside.

They rarely leave the water due to extreme awkwardness on land because of their very short legs. However, as a perching duck, they may often be seen in trees.
