This breed was developed in Germany in the early 1900's, by fanciers who were as interested in the form and beauty of the bird as its flying ability.

This medium-sized bird, with its long neck and horizontal carriage is most noted for the large semi-circular head and its strong beak with a lower mandible almost as large as the upper.
